Local birdwatching – Balaba Nature Camp, The Gambia
A sustainable family-run lodge that's a home from home

Local birdwatching

Balaba is surrounded by woodland, and there is plenty of bird life to be found by taking a local walk. We can arrange local walks to suit you, or you are welcome simply to wander unaccompanied.

We can also arrange excursions within the local area:

Birds and Breakfast

Take an early morning  boat ride along the nearby Allahein River, where osprey, African fish eagles, and palm nut vultures are regularly seen; you may even be lucky enough to see a crocodile! Then return for a picnic breakfast by the river.

NB: This excursion can be arranged as a short package, to include an overnight stay, river trip and breakfast.

A morning visit to the nearby wetland area in Kartong may allow you to see wading birds, seabirds, and perhaps a crocodile.

Birdwatching further afield

If you would like to travel further upriver, we can arrange longer excursions, including transport and overnight accommodation. Please contact us for details.
